Stream sniping has become a real problem as more people stream themselves playing games on platforms like Twitch and YouTube. Is it something we can prevent, and if so, how? Now know What is stream snipping?
What is Stream Sniping?
The act of sniping a live stream is known as stream sniping. It is possible to sneak up on or flank your opponents if you know where they are.
Both competitive and non-competitive games can be affected by sniping. In addition to competitive gain, this can also be used for harassment.
If a stream sniper can see the streamer’s server or their screen name, they can find everything they require to locate them.
As a general rule, This affects large-audience streamers, however it may also negatively affect anyone streaming live gameplay. It is similar to peering into someone’s screen at a LAN party, or cheating in split-screen games like Halo or Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64.
Countermeasures to Prevent Stream Sniping
This has become more prevalent as fast, responsive internet connections have enabled gamers to broadcast gameplay with very little delay.
You can specify a delay interval as a countermeasure in streaming software and on streaming platforms like Twitch. OBS Studio and Streamlabs OBS have this option under Settings > Advanced > Stream Delay. Under Stream Manager > Preferences > Channel, Twitch partners can toggle low latency (less delay) on or off.
It may be difficult to avoid becoming a target if you are in the same game session as a stream sniper. You’ll still be at a disadvantage if you’re playing predictably (say, protecting a base or flag) or in a particular part of the map.
Some games, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, hide server names and other identifiable information to make it harder for stream snipers to locate their targets. Community update for Sea of Thieves focused on stream sniping and what players in that community could do to mitigate the risk.
Stream Sniping Can Ban Users
You will be banned from servers and services if you are caught stream sniping since you gain an unfair advantage. It is difficult to catch someone in the act, however.
Sniping violates the terms and conditions of many games, including Valiant, Final Fantasy XIV, and Fortnite.
